The Luxembourg branch of the Family Business Network was launched on 5 July in the presence of Xavier Bettel (Prime Minister), Philippe Depoorter (Member of the Management Committee of Banque de Luxembourg), entrepreneurs from Luxembourg and other countries, and representatives of the FBN branches in Belgium, Germany, France and Switzerland.
Based on sharing experience between peers and conveying best practice, the aim of the FBN is to give family businesses the knowledge and information they need to assure their development and hand over to future generations.
Family Business Network International: the first global network for family businesses
Family Business Network International (FBN-I) was founded in Switzerland in 1989 with the idea of linking up family businesses in a shared vision, knowing that they face the same challenges and values. It is a federation of international not-for-profit associations led by family businesses for family businesses, to promote their success and ensure their sustainability for future generations. Worldwide, the network currently links up 3,600 businesses and 12,000 individual members, across 65 countries, through 33 local chapters.
FBN Luxembourg: Luxembourg family businesses now have their own network
FBN Luxembourg intends to address a number of challenges specific to family businesses, by helping business-owning families forge contacts with each other, share their experiences and discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by their activities.
“We have created FBN Luxembourg to enable Luxembourg business families to benefit from a platform for discussion, a confidential space where they can feel free to share their own experience and learn from the experiences of other business-owning families, both in Luxembourg and abroad, thanks to the network’s international dimension. There has been nothing like this platform in our country before”, says Max Didier, CEO of FBN Luxembourg. And he adds: “Issues of specific concern to the next generation are also central to our activities. The rising generation will also have its own peer-to-peer discussion forum.”
The founders of FBN Luxembourg are: Max Didier and Jean-Marc Kieffer (CDCL), Raymond Ackermann (Accumalux), Goy Grosbusch (Grosbusch), Antoine Clasen (Bernard Massard) and Georges Krombach (Landewyck Group).
“We have always supported entrepreneurship in Luxembourg, and particularly family businesses, as through their resilience, long-term performance and the values they embody, they represent an inspiring example. Our support for FBN Luxembourg fits perfectly with this approach. As well as financial support, we intend to contribute actively to its development and thereby offer Luxembourg families a forum for discussion and reflection”, explains Philippe Depoorter, Member of the Management Committee of Banque de Luxembourg, the lead partner to FBN Luxembourg.
